Shot from the vantage point of Hammersmith Bridge, this is a quinessential shot of a iconic south London vista at the home of rowing. Taken just before sunset, using a very slow shutter speed, the rowing boat takes on the elegance of a swan as it drifts towards the setting sun. Mason has expertly composed the scene, fitting the rowing boat in with the line of the setting sun. In many ways, the image evokes photographic comparisons to the sunsets of Turner and the Romanticists, at the very least in the ambience it creates.
