In this photograph, Haker actively engages with the nature slowly creeping its way into the building. Shot through sun-filled windows, the warm dappled shadow that stretches across the floorboards emphasises the romantic and encroaching forces of nature. The colours of the palatial room come to the fore here as our eyes pick up on the warm browns, blues and finally greens of the world outside. Matthias is a self taught photographer who specialises in shooting abandoned buildings, but just don't ask him where they are. "I do love abandoned buildings, I see so much beauty in those places, but there are too many idiots out there that don't behave like me. I've seen so much vandalism, theft and other bad things happening to those buildings, that I will do all I can to protect these beauties. Therefore I don't give any information about the location, not even the country...since every little piece of information makes it easier for people to find them. No exceptions."
Matthias has been working as a professional freelance and fine art photographer since 2012.
He specializes in architectural, landscape and urban topics as well as the photography of decaying buildings. Matthias' images have appeared in various magazines around the world and have been shown in exhibitions in London, Berlin and Paris.
